Fangesänge aus Irland sind seit jeher der Hit im Fußball, bekommen aber bei der EM 2012 noch mal eine verdiente größere Aufmerksamkeit, weil irische Fans im Singen so viel besser sind als sogar ein Gegner wie Spanien im Fußballspielen. Wenn Fans aus Irland „The Fields of Athenry“ singen, bringt das sogar manch Fußballkommentator zum Schweigen, der sonst pausenlos vor sich hinplappert. Come on you Boys in Green! Allein Giovanni Trapattonis Iren auf dem Platz können da international nicht ganz mithalten, doch „You only sing when you’re winning“ passt so gar nicht zu den sangesfreudigen Iren. Beim Stand von 0:4 gegen Spanien drehen sie erst richtig auf, geben dem Team und dem ganzen Land die Unterstützung, den Support, den es verdient. Das Lied The Fields of Athenry wird sonst nur beim Rugby so schön aus so vielen Kehlen gesungen, im Fußball tut sich hier auch die legendäre Kop in Liverpool stimmlich traditionell besonders hervor, auch wenn Traditionen wie Stehränge im modernen Fußball besonders gefährdet sind. Vielleicht sollte sich deutsche Nationalmannschaft das als Vorbereitung immer wieder ansehen. Es wuerde vermeiden, dass sie wie in der WM 2010 jammern und nicht zum Fanmeilen Empfang wollen, obwohl eine ganze Fussballnation stolz war auf sie.
Es wuerde vermeiden, dass, wie jetzt vielfach zur EM passiert, nach der Niederlage 90% der Flaggen verschwanden, obwohl es an sich immer noch eine super Party war.
